We do not utilize the following ingredients:

PARABENS: Parabens are chemicals widely used as preservatives in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. These compounds, and their salts, are used primarily for their bacteriocidal and fungicidal properties. They can be found in personal glides and enhancing products, shampoos, commercial moisturizers, shaving gels, topical/parenteral pharmaceuticals, spray tanning solution and toothpaste. 

 

Studies have shown that parabens are able to be absorbed through the skin and to bind to the body's estrogen-receptors, where they can encourage breast cancer cell growth.  Parabens can mimic the hormone estrogen, which is known to play a role in the development of breast cancers. The preservatives are used in many cosmetics and some foods to increase their shelf life. 

A number of researchers and skin care experts have discovered that this preservative normally found in skin care products such as personal glides, shampoos, moisturizers, shaving creams, and lotions can be toxic. It becomes even more dangerous the longer the person is exposed to it. It can do the following:

 

• Alter the estrogen processes among women, increasing the tendency of developing estrogen-dependent diseases like breast tumors

• Heighten the existing allergic reactions experienced by the user

• Decrease the sperm cell count among males

• Promote skin allergic reactions like contact dermatitis and rosacea

• Spur the development of skin cancer

• Cause problems to fetal development for pregnant women

 

ANIMAL or BIO-DIESEL GLYCERIN:

Glycerin is a humectant, used in the manufacturing of cosmetics, foods, and pharmaceuticals. Glycerin helps to add sweetness and retain moisture. When used vaginally, glycerin can “feed” the natural yeast found in a woman’s body, potentially causing an over growth of yeast which can result in an infection in some women. While many women may not experience yeast infections from glycerin, women who are prone to yeast infections should avoid products with this ingredient. Intimate Earth offers two glycerin free glide formulas, Hydra and Defense, for women prone to yeast infections. Intimate Earth’ Melt and Soothe glides contain naturally derived plant-glycerin. It is a safer alternative to the animal or bio-diesel glycerin commonly used.

 

MENTHOL:
The majority of menthol in personal products is synthetic. Synthetic menthol comes in the form of l-menthol crystals. Synthetic menthol can be irritating and drying to a woman's clitoris and vagina. Our safe and natural choice is Mentha Pepperita, a natural Japanese Peppermint Oil. 

 

ALUMINUM SULPHATE (ALUM):
Aluminum Sulphate is used in the canning and pickling process. It is also found in sexual tightening products. Because alum has astringent properties, it can produce a tightening sensation by dehydrating vaginal tissue. This can lead to painful intercourse. In addition, alum can disrupt the natural PH levels and micro flora of the vagina, which can lead to infection. There is concern that prolonged exposure to Aluminum Sulphate may have toxic side effects. The natural alternative to alum, found in Intimate Earth Embrace Tightening Gel is Capsicum. It is derived from the pepper plant. Capsicum causes the vaginal walls to temporarily contract without removing moisture or disrupting PH levels of the vagina.

 

BENZOCAINE/LYDOCAINE:
Benzocaine/Lydocaine are numbing agents that work by blocking nerve signals throughout the body. When used in anal relaxing products, these numbing agents can prevent the body from feeling pain, potentially leading to tears and damage to the sphincter. Intimate Earth utilizes natural clove oil, which allows the area to relax instead of numb, for safe and comfortable penetration.

 

ASPARTAME:
Aspartame is used in many flavored glides and foods as a sugar substitute. Studies show aspartame presents many potential dangers. Aspartame has been shown to lower the body’s immunity to viruses and can trigger herpes breakouts, both genital and oral, within 10 minutes of consumption. Aspartame dissolves into a solution which can travel throughout the body and deposit within any tissue.   Our safe and natural choice is stevia.
